The 'internet'

Him: Why can't I find any red jeans!?!
Me: Have you been to american apparel? They have shit loads of wanky hipster shit in there
Him: Where's that?
Me: Have you ever heard of a thing called 'google'?
Him: No. Where's that?
Me: Google it.

The above conversation illustrates a growing trend I am encountering where people over 35 years of age seem to think I'm the fount of all knowledge because I have a decent grasp of how to use the internet. Another example is being asked a question like 'who was that singing in the last scene of Vampire Diaries?' (yes, I know people over the age of 35 who watch Vampire Diaries. You may have to just deal with this) because my reply to this was also 'use the internet'. I think it might be the first example of generation gap where I win. I normally encounter generation gap because I don't have the exact cultural references re: music and tv that they do and tend to feel a bit left out of conversations. Like someone talking about The Banana Splits or The Wedding Present and 'lol, remember when...' type stuff. I know what these things are but they don't feature as cultural touch stones quite so significantly for me. Just as, I assume, they know what google is but they never think to use it unless I point out how it exists and is available for their useage. Cos you know how I'm going to find out the answers to your 'unanswerable' questions? I am going to use google. I have GENUINELY been told before I am 'clever' for finding out what film clip is being played at the start of a particular Morrissey song (for one example). It's like, typing and clicking enter don't make me 'clever' so much as 'functionally literate in the world we happen to inhabit now'.

Am I intolerant? I think I might be extremely intolerant. But, seriously, there is this thing called 'Google'. If you want an answer to a question I don't give a fuck about then I suggest you use it.
