Me: You have to talk to people in their own language if you want to be understood. It's like if you were trying to say this really beautiful, selfless thing to someone that only understands German, but you said it in English, then it wouldn't matter how beautiful or selfless it was because they wouldn't understand you.
Him: Never mind German, I'd have to speak to her in Swahili to get her to listen!
My step-father doesn't really 'get' metaphor.
(Or maybe I need to be taking a leaf out of my own book amirite?)
